Abstract

As the use of websites including social media platforms, online financial services, and e-marketplaces continues to grow, so too do the attacks targeting them. Attackers employ a variety of methods, such as phishing, social engineering, spam, Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks, malware, ransomware, and zero-day exploits. Consequently, there has been a rise in the number of attacks and security breaches affecting users. This research examines these types of attacks and their impact on internet users by gathering data from information technology students at the Higher Institute of Science and Technology in Tajoura and the University of Tripoli. The study aims to determine the frequency and severity of these attacks within our community, measure user confidence when managing accounts amidst such threats, and assess how the impact of an attack varies based on the type of website and platform involved. Furthermore, the study seeks to gauge individuals' awareness and understanding of the risks associated with these attacks, thereby supporting decision-making processes aimed at raising awareness and mitigating the negative consequences of these attacks on society.
